Alysia Macklin
Lead Marketing & Analytics, Center for Augmenting Intelligence (CAI)
English (Professional Writing), Leadership Minor — University of Detroit Mercy
Alysia Macklin is an English major with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Leadership at the University of Detroit Mercy. She currently serves in the Lead Marketing and Analytics role with the Center for Augmenting Intelligence (CAI), where she blends creativity, strategy, and data to communicate AI initiatives across campus. Drawn to the intersection of storytelling and technology, Alysia joined CAI to explore how AI can enhance communication, engagement, and student-led innovation.
Alysia joined the Center for Augmenting Intelligence during the Winter 2026 semester after learning about CAI’s focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and emerging technologies.
- Motivation: She was interested in how AI could support marketing, writing, and leadership—fields not traditionally seen as technical but deeply impacted by technology.
- Initial Goals: She hoped to gain hands-on experience with AI-driven tools while strengthening her professional writing and strategic communication skills.
- Early Expectations: While she expected to work behind the scenes, she quickly found herself taking on a more active role in shaping messaging and outreach.
Through her work with CAI, Alysia has contributed to initiatives that support campus engagement and visibility:
- AI Challenge & Campus Events
- Marketing & Analytics Support
- Content Development & Messaging
Working with CAI has helped Alysia develop both technical and transferable skills, including:
- Technical & Analytical Skills: Exposure to AI tools, analytics platforms, and data-informed marketing strategies.
- Professional Writing: Writing for diverse audiences and adapting tone for academic, professional, and student-facing contexts.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Working across disciplines, contributing ideas confidently, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and peers.
- Career Clarity: Gaining confidence in pursuing roles that combine communication, technology, and leadership.
Alysia’s experience with CAI reshaped how she views AI—not as a replacement for creativity, but as a tool that enhances it. Working on AI-driven projects pushed her outside her comfort zone and helped her see how humanities-focused students can play a critical role in tech-forward spaces.
“AI doesn’t replace creativity; it challenges you to think differently. Working with CAI showed me that strong writing, ethical thinking, and leadership are just as important in tech spaces as coding.” Looking ahead, Alysia is excited to continue developing her skills at the intersection of writing, marketing, and technology. Her work with CAI plays an important role in shaping her future goals in professional communication and leadership, and she encourages other students to explore how AI can support their own academic and career paths.
Advice to Other Students:
Don’t assume AI isn’t for you just because you’re not in a STEM major. If you’re curious, creative, or willing to learn, there’s space for you. Jump in, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to bring your own perspective.
