Business Administration — Graduate Student

Latifa Amzil is a graduate student in Business Administration at the University of Detroit Mercy and serves as Project Manager & Business Operations Intern with the Center for Augmenting Intelligence (CAI). Since joining CAI in Spring 2025, she has combined her interests in healthcare, AI, technology, and business through work that brings people and ideas together. Her experience reflects a growing interest in how thoughtful coordination and smart tools can support better outcomes across fields.

How She Got Involved
Latifa first got involved with CAI in Spring 2025 while helping with sample collection for the Breath Research project. What drew her in was the chance to work at the intersection of several fields she cares about, especially healthcare, technology, business, and AI.

Projects and Contributions
As a project manager, Latifa has contributed to a range of CAI projects. Her work has included Breath Research, the AgeWell AI event, poster creation and presentations for the CSACE Scholarly Achievement event, social media content, and general project coordination.
Posters: “Strategic Project Workflow & Digital Management for the CAI Aging Well AI-Challenge” & “Center for Augmenting Intelligence – AI in education”.
One of her main accomplishments was helping plan and host the AgeWell AI event on April 10th, which brought in more than 120 participants. The event created opportunities for professionals, community groups, students, and faculty to connect and collaborate. For Latifa, that kind of teamwork is one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.

Skills and Growth
Through CAI, Latifa has strengthened a wide range of skills that will support her future career. She has gained experience in project management, working with different stakeholders, improving workflows, critical thinking, and teamwork.
She sees these skills as especially valuable for the kind of work she wants to do in the future. Whether in project management, product management, or operations in healthcare or health tech, her time at CAI has helped her build confidence and clarity about her path forward.

Perspective on AI
CAI has also changed the way Latifa thinks about AI. She now sees it as a tool that can take over repetitive tasks, improve efficiency, and make everyday work smoother.
At the same time, she understands that AI is not a replacement for people. While some worry about job loss, she believes AI will also create new opportunities and give an advantage to those who learn how to use it well. Her perspective is practical and forward-looking, focusing on how technology and human skill can work together.
“AI has the power to connect different fields in ways we’ve never seen before. It speeds up discovery, improves decisions, and brings disciplines together, but it also reflects the biases in the data we give it, meaning real progress depends just as much on human awareness and responsibility as it does on the technology itself.”

Advice for Students
Latifa encourages other students to approach AI with curiosity rather than fear. In her view, AI is no longer just for tech experts. It is becoming part of many fields, and the important thing is learning how it fits into your own area of interest.
She believes CAI is a great place to start. It gives students the chance to explore AI in a hands-on way while learning alongside people from different backgrounds. For anyone thinking about getting involved, her advice is simple: be open, stay curious, and give it a try.

Looking Ahead
Latifa is excited about future roles where healthcare, business operations, and technology come together. She hopes to work in spaces where data and AI can help improve efficiency, support better decision-making, and lead to better patient outcomes.
Her goal is to do more than manage systems; she wants to help improve them. Through her work at CAI, she has built a strong foundation for that path and gained experience that will support her as she moves into the next stage of her career.
